Valleyfield Quebec Cup
Mon Aug 25, 2008
I had heard great things about the Valleyfield triathlon. And even though it is just a short drive away from Ottawa, I had never done it before. So it was great to be able to participate in this year's event! The weather forecast called for a day of cool, wet weather (we should be used to this by now). But as luck would have it, the sunshine held out for the duration of the day which made for an absolutely ideal day for racing/spectating.

Geneva ITU: Bad Luck Comes in Threes?
Sun Jul 13, 2008
A flat tire just 1.5 km into the bike portion put an end to my day. This now puts me at 3 DNFs in a row for the last 3 ITU races - flats both here and in San Francisco, and Kelowna where I had to pull out with back spasms. It is very disappointing to finish a race this way. I had swum well and was starting the ride in a good position. But on one of the first few corners my back wheel slid on some grit and almost came out from under me. I somehow managed to stay upright and thought momentarily that I had avoided disaster. But then immediately my back tire literally exploded. After the race I looked at the tube and was shocked to see a gash 2 inches long in the tube. I have never seen a puncture that big before.

Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon
Tue Jul 08, 2008
On June 22 I made my first ever trip to Philadelphia to race in the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon. After an easy run on Friday night I drove 4 hrs to Syracuse NY then finished the drive on Saturday morning. It was exciting to see a bit of Philadelphia and I stayed with Tom B. who lives only a couple streets away from the historic Art Gallery (site of the “Rocky steps”).

Muskoka Chase Race
Wed Jun 25, 2008
After a disappointing end to the 2007 season – one that was filled with injuries - I was excited to get back to racing. The winter had been filled with some very solid hours of training and I am finally feeling 100% healthy. I had contemplated going back to Ixtapa, but after last year’s misadventures I decided to take a pass. So first up on the schedule: Muskoka!

Triathlon Lac Leamy
Fri Jul 27, 2007
It was great to race in Gatineau this past weekend – it will be my only hometown race of the year. It turned out to be a great event with lots of good competition and it was also nice to come away with a good result!

Musselman ITU Pan American Cup
Fri Jul 20, 2007
On Friday July 13th, I set out for Geneva NY - site of the 2007 Musselman ITU Pan American Cup. Despite traveling on an unlucky day, my luck in the event turned out to be mostly good and I finished the race with a 13th place position. Although the door was open for a top 10 placing, I am very happy with the result.

St Lambert race report
Wed Jul 11, 2007
I drove to Montreal on the morning of the race expecting a solid race (given the talent on the start list) but was hoping to keep the effort to a controlled level. With an ITU race coming up the following weekend I didn’t want to go too far into" the hole". But sometimes you have to expect the unexpected!

Canadian Sprint Championships - Bronze Medalist!
Tue Jul 03, 2007
This Canada Day long weekend proved to be a very good weekend of racing for me. Saturday I ran my way to the podium in the National Sprint Championships (finishing in 3rd) and then won the Barry's Bay triathlon on Monday. What feels especially good about Saturday's race was the fact that I was able to run pretty hard. Finally my running is getting back up to speed!

Muskoka Long course - chase race
Mon Jun 18, 2007
After racing the Muskoka Long Course this past weekend, I am still trying to convince myself that my results were good. The race began very well but I struggled on the bike and in the latter portions of the run. Even though the times seemed to be slower across the board, I was still expecting a faster time and a higher placing.

OK Tour a success!
Thu Jun 07, 2007
Last Thursday a group of about 50 riders set off from Ottawa on a 4 day bike journey that brought us to Kennebunkport, Maine. In the 4 day span our group covered about 750km, which included some of the most spectacular scenery the North-East has to offer. The climbs through Vermont and New Hampshire were totally inspiring! One of the highlights was hitting 94km/h on a descent!
